Escape Front Bear Hug - Over Arms

BJJ Self Defense Front Bear Hug Over Arms
Technique Set Up:

Your opponent hugs you from the front, with both arms pinning your arms to your body.

Technique Description:

Traditionally, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students learn to defend the front bear hug by transitioning to an "O Goshi" judo throw.  While this is a good setup to learn the O Goshi, and it looks really cool, it is not very practical to instruct someone to defend a front bear hug by hip throwing the bad guy.  So I included both below.

Practical Self Defense to Front Bear Hug - Over Arms

  1. Squat down and away from your opponent (stick your butt out and down) to make space between you and your opponent.  Keep your knees bent and weight low.  While you are squatting down, lift up with your forearms.
  2. Place your hands on your opponent's hips.  You can use your opponent's hips as leverage to push away.
  3. Push away from your opponent's hips with one foot back.
  4. Once you have made enough space, knee your opponent in the groin repeatedly (and run away).
