Escape Rear Bear Hug - Over Arms

BJJ Self Defense Rear Bear Hug Over Arms
Technique Description:

I do not like the traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu self defense for defending a Rear Bear Hug - Over Arms because it involves lifting your opponent and throwing them over your back, which is sort of rediculous, particularly for a non-athletic person.  However, as this is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu web site, you might want to know this technique in case you are testing for a belt, and asked to execute it.  So I have included both below:

Practical Self Defense to Front Bear Hug - Over Arms

  1. Squat down low and raise your arms up with a 90 degree bend at the arms
  2. Step backwards around and behind your opponent to the left, with your right leg behind your opponent's right leg
  3. Fall backwards pressuring opponent with your arm and tripping him over your outstretched foot.

Babs Olusanmokun, in the first video below, demonstrates a practical self defense to the front bear hug.
